Located just outside the township of Birdwood, Mylkappa Vineyard sits in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, a region renowned for its cool climate wines. The vineyard benefits from cool night breezes that create ideal conditions for grape growing. With steady growth in recent years, expanding infrastructure and rising energy demands began to strain the existing grid connection, prompting the need for an additional power solution.

Meeting Demand Beyond the Grid

The MyEnergy team were brought in to design a tailored grid connected solar system. The aim was to deliver reliable daily power, while also handling seasonal spikes in demand, particularly during vintage. At this time of year, energy consumption rises due to the operation of grape crushers, presses, pumps and extended working hours requiring consistent lighting and power supply. A grid connected solar system was the ideal solution, offering both immediate support and long-term flexibility.

Grid Connected Solar System Design

MyEnergy delivered a 40kW ground-mounted grid connected solar system using 80 Hanwha Q Cell panels, known for durability and performance in Australian conditions. A 30kW Sungrow SGCX30 inverter was mounted on a custom checker plate structure beneath the solar array, designed for easy access and protection from the elements. This grid connected solar system integrates seamlessly with the vineyard’s current grid supply and supports day-to-day operations efficiently.

Future-Proof Energy for Mylkappa Vineyard

The new grid connected solar system ensures that Mylkappa Vineyard can operate without disruption, even when the grid is under pressure. Installed by MyEnergy’s experienced team, the system is designed for scalability and performance. As the vineyard continues to expand, the grid connected solar system will support increased energy use. A well-planned grid connected solar system like this not only improves power reliability but also strengthens the vineyard’s operations year-round.
