With no access to mains power and limited infrastructure nearby, homes in this region rely entirely on well-designed off grid solar systems to support modern life. For one remote home owner in McHarg Creek, it was time for a practical and future-ready upgrade.
Growing Energy Needs
The house had an existing off-grid setup, but over time, growing household energy use began to exceed the system’s capacity. Rather than replacing the entire system, the owners chose to build on what was already in place, adding more solar generation, expanding battery storage and upgrading inverter capabilities to improve performance and reliability.
A Tailored Off Grid Solar System Expansion
To meet the demands of everyday off-grid living, MyEnergy designed a tailored system upgrade that integrated seamlessly with the existing setup. This included the installation of 6.16kW of JA Solar panels on the shed roof, mounted using a Clenergy roof mounting system.
The solar array connects to a Victron MultiPlus-II inverter (5kVA), supported by a Victron SmartSolar charge controller and monitored via a Victron Cerbo GX. Power is stored in three Pylontech lithium batteries with a total capacity of 10.65kWh.
