Just outside the township of Goolwa on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, landowners are increasingly turning to off grid solar systems as a more cost-effective and dependable solution than connecting to mains power. While Goolwa itself is well serviced, heading further out often makes grid connection costly and impractical.
Off Grid Power for a New Home Build
For one new property owner setting up in the outer rural fringe of Goolwa, a customised off grid solar system from MyEnergy was the smarter choice from day one. With no existing electricity infrastructure and the property well beyond the grid’s reach, the owner needed a dependable off grid solar system to power the build of their new home and continue supplying reliable energy long after construction is complete.
A Tailored Off Grid Solar System
MyEnergy designed and installed a new off grid solar system built to meet both current and future needs. The system includes 12.32kW of JA Solar panels mounted on the shed roof using a Schletter roof mounting system. This array delivers ample generation to support daily loads and construction demands when the home is being built.
The power system is housed on a wall inside the shed. Power is delivered through a 10kVA Victron MultiPlus-II Inverter, ensuring consistent output. Solar input is managed by the Victron SmartSolar charge controller and the entire off grid solar system is monitored via the Victron Ekrano GX, giving the owner real-time visibility and control over power generation and usage.
Energy is stored in 20.48kWh of ZYC SYMPO lithium batteries, securely installed in a purpose-built protective cabinet to guard against dust and physical damage. The system’s layout and technology allows for future battery expansion if required, supporting long-term flexibility.
