Dudley West is a coastal area on Kangaroo Island’s Dudley Peninsula, surrounded by farmland, native bushland, and sweeping ocean views. Known for its rugged beauty and proximity to Dudley Conservation Park, it captures the essence of island life. While Kangaroo Island’s main towns are grid-connected, many rural properties rely on off grid solar systems, making tailored off grid solar installations essential for those building in the area.
From Plans to Power
For this installation, we met with property owners who had recently purchased a block of land in Dudley West with plans to build their home in the near future. A newly built shed was the first stage of the project, but with no established power supply on the block, they needed a reliable off grid solar system designed to power the shed now and scale seamlessly when the house is built.
Off Grid Solar System Built for Island Conditions
To simplify installation, MyEnergy pre-built the complete off grid solar system on the mainland at MyEnergy HQ, before transporting it by truck and ferry to Kangaroo Island. Fully tested and certified ahead of time, the system was installed efficiently and built for remote island conditions. The core components were housed in one of our largest vermin and weatherproof steel cabinets and placed inside the new shed, with a 17.6kW off grid solar array of JA Solar Panels mounted on a Schletter Roof Mount System.
The system features a 10kVA Victron MultiPlus-II inverter, a 5kW SMA Sunny Boy inverter, Victron SmartSolar Charge Controller and a Victron Ekrano GX for monitoring. Paired with 30.72kWh of ZYC SIMPO battery storage, this off grid solar installation delivers reliable power from day one with the capacity to expand as future energy needs grow.
