Just over an hour south of Adelaide, Finnis is a quiet farming community in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. Surrounded by farming land, it's the kind of place where reliability matters and self-sufficiency is a way of life. Nomad Farms is a working farm committed to regenerative practices, known for its pasture-raised poultry and livestock and its focus on sustainable land care.
When The Grid Falls Short
With expanding operations and growing energy demands for agricultural activities, cool storage and processing equipment, Nomad Farms needed more than just backup power. Limited grid capacity and increasing usage meant the existing setup couldn’t keep up. A scalable, stand-alone energy solution was essential to ensure year-round efficiency and reliability across the farm.
Custom Off-grid Power System, Built Farm-Ready
The MyEnergy team were called in to design and install an off grid power system tailored to the farm’s specific needs. To streamline installation and minimise on site disruption, the complete system was prebuilt offsite in a weather and vermin proof cabinet. It features a Victron Energy inverter charger, two SmartSolar MPPTs and ZYC SIMPO lithium batteries for reliable storage and future scalability. Once delivered, the cabinet was installed inside the farm’s 16 by 9 metre main shed, with all components tested and certified so it could be up and running quickly. The solar panels were installed on the shed roof to make the most of available space. While designed for daily off grid operation, the system was also integrated with the farm’s existing generator, used only as a low use backup during extended poor weather or peak seasonal demand.
