Dingabledinga is a small spot in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges, known for its sweeping views across vineyards and farmland. Despite being only around 40 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD, it feels remote, with unsealed roads, large rural allotments and native bushland. Properties away from the main roads often lack grid connection, so an off grid power system is essential for anyone living or building in the area.
Planning for Off-Grid Living in Dingabledinga
Plans for a new home in Dingabledinga began with a clear understanding of the need for a reliable off grid power system. The owners took a staged approach, starting with a power supply to cover weekend camping stays and construction works, with plans to scale the system to meet the energy demands of the completed residence. With big plans for future expansion, it was essential to get the off grid power system right from the outset to support their long-term vision, including a future transition to a three phase power supply with backup generator.
A Future-Ready Off Grid Power System
MyEnergy designed a tailored off grid power system to suit the owners’ staged approach. The system was installed on a dedicated power wall inside a newly built shed, delivering reliable energy for construction and ensuring the home is move in ready when the build is complete. 28 JA Solar panels were mounted on the shed roof using the Schletter roof mount system. The system includes a Victron Multiplus inverter, Victron SmartSolar MPPT and Victron Cerbo GX Touch, giving the owners clear visibility and control of their energy use. Eight Pylontech batteries are securely housed in the Pylontech cabinet, providing ample storage to meet immediate needs such as power tools, water pumps, and weekend stays.
The system has been designed with future upgrades in mind. It is ready to expand to a three phase supply as the property develops, with capacity to add two more Multiplus inverters, and includes provision for a generator inlet to connect a 6kVA generator if required.
