Located on the eastern edge of Lake Gairdner, Mahanewo Station is a remote Merino sheep station that forms part of the Greenwood Park group. Spanning 1,200 square kilometres of desert country and situated 191 kilometres northwest of Port Augusta, it’s one of South Australia’s 6,300 Merino wool producers. The station runs around 8,000 sheep, primarily for wool and keeps 200 cattle. Mahanewo relies on a mix of dams, bore water and only in long, difficult droughts, mains water. This remote station is highly self-sufficient and built to handle the challenges of life off the beaten track.
Growing Off Grid Power Demands
The station was previously running on an outdated off-grid power system that could no longer meet the growing demands of the property. Their reliance on a backup generator had increased significantly, driving up fuel costs. With a new shed being built and future energy needs anticipated to rise, the timing was right for an upgrade. The owners needed a more reliable off grid power system with the capacity to support their operations now and into the future.
MyEnergy's Remote Off Grid Power Solution
Due to the remote nature of Mahanewo Station, MyEnergy designed and constructed the off grid power system at our headquarters. Pre-built inside one of our largest weatherproof and vermin-proof steel cabinets. The system was fully tested and certified at MyEnergy HQ before being transported to site, ensuring quick installation with minimal interruption.

This off-grid power system consists of 38 Canadian Solar panels mounted to the shed roof with a Clenergy mounting system. Key system components include a Victron Quattro inverter, Fronius inverter, Victron SmartSolar MPPT, Cerbo GX for system monitoring and 12 US3000 Pylontech lithium batteries for scalable storage.

Built for the Outback, Ready for the Future.
This off grid power solution brings reliable energy to a historic outback station, built to grow with the property’s evolving needs. It’s only the first stage of the project, with a future expansion planned to power the shearing quarters. The entire system was designed with this growth in mind and will integrate seamlessly when the time comes. It’s yet another example of MyEnergy delivering off grid power where the grid won’t go.
