Just inland from Goolwa on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, lies Currency Creek. This regional area is renowned for its lush vineyards and expansive wetlands. Most land in the area is utilized for farming and grazing. Given its rural setting, connecting to the electricity grid can be both expensive and impractical. Hence, off-grid power systems become a wise choice for properties in this region.
The Need for Scalable Off Grid Power
An agricultural property in Currency Creek faced a challenge. The owner required an off-grid power system to operate a newly built shed and lay the groundwork for a future farm. With no existing power supply available, having reliable power was crucial from the very start. The system needed to be capable of operating current equipment while also supporting future agricultural expansion.
A Customized Off Grid Power Solution
To address these needs, MyEnergy was brought in to design and install a comprehensive off-grid power solution. This system was built on-site and tailored to meet the specific daily demands of agricultural life. A total of 6.64 kW of Trina Solar panels were strategically installed on the shed roof, utilizing a Clenergy roof mounting system. Within the shed, all system components were organized on a dedicated power board. This layout ensured a clean, accessible workspace that would facilitate ease of use, servicing, and potential future upgrades.
Core Components and Functionality
At the core of this off-grid power system is a Victron MultiPlus-II inverter/charger. This component is complemented by a Victron SmartSolar charge controller, ensuring efficient energy management. Additionally, the entire system is monitored and managed via a Victron Cerbo GX, granting the owner full visibility and control over their energy usage.
Power storage is vital for any off-grid system. This installation utilizes Pylontech lithium batteries, which provide 9.6 kWh of energy storage. These batteries are securely housed in a Pylontech battery cabinet, safeguarding their integrity and ensuring maximum efficiency.
