Crafers West, located in the Adelaide Hills just a short drive from the city centre, is known for its peaceful, leafy surrounds and beautiful views. While many properties in the area are connected to the grid, landholders building away the main roads often face a costly challenge: grid connection isn’t always practical, or affordable. For those wanting to live further from the main town, an off grid home can be the smarter solution.
Powering Growth from Day One
The owner of this Crafers West property approached MyEnergy with a clear objective: install a stable and scalable off-grid power system that could support a staged development plan. With construction just beginning, the goal was to power a shed in stage one while making provisions for significant expansion. A diesel 17kVA generator will be added in future phases and ultimately, the property will operate on a full three-phase system. This required careful planning to ensure the off grid power system could adapt without needing to be rebuilt from scratch.
Designing the First Stage of an Off Grid Home System
With years of experience in delivering flexible, staged energy systems, MyEnergy developed a reliable and future-ready solution. For this initial phase, the off grid home power system was designed as a surface-mounted setup inside the shed. At its core is a Victron MultiPlus-II inverter, paired with a Victron SmartSolar charge controller and Cerbo GX for system monitoring.
24 Jinko solar panels were installed on the shed roof, delivering 10.56kW of solar capacity. Power is stored in two ZYC SIMPO 5000 lithium batteries, providing a total of 10.24kWh of storage. The design allows for seamless integration with a future generator and will scale as needed when MyEnergy returns for stage two of the property’s development.

Smart Planning for a Scalable Off Grid Home
This project highlights why planning matters when building an off grid home. By thinking ahead, the property owner ensured every stage of their land development is supported by dependable, scalable power. MyEnergy's approach means they can expand their home and eventually move to three-phase power without needing to redo the original setup.
If you're building an off grid home in a semi-regional area like Crafers West, designing for long-term growth is essential. A smart off grid home power system will save money down the track and provide the energy freedom needed to develop your property at your own pace.
Whether you're just getting started or planning the next phase of your off grid home, MyEnergy can help create a solution that grows with you, just like this project in Crafers West.
